Tottenham Continue Bid to Land Everton Midfielder

Tottenham Hotspur have taken a step closer to strengthening their midfield by preparing another push to signing Everton’s Ross Barkley.

So far this Summer, the two sides have failed to agree on a fee for the 24-Year-Old Englishman, but the Independent believes that Everton are willing to compromise on their £50 Million asking price.

Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino is a long-term admirer of Barkley and believes that he can make the most of the England international’s evident talent.

Barkley has only one year remaining on his contract and does not intend on signing a new one, so Everton are reportedly happy to sell him, but have not been able to agree on a suitable fee.

There is a willingness on all sides to bring negotiations to a close and reach an agreement for the player before the end of the window.

The issue that has restricted the move from being completed is Everton and Spurs chairman Daniel Levy’s valuation of the player, with Levy believing £50 Million is an unrealistic figure considering Barkley is in the final year of his current contract.

Everton have already signed an attacking midfielder in Davy Klaassen (who arrived from Ajax two weeks ago for £25 Million) and are attempting to add another in their pursuit of Swansea’s highly-rated Icelander Gylfi Sigurdsson, which would appear to suggest Barkley’s position at the club has already been filled.

Spurs, after selling right back Kyle Walker to Manchester City for an initial £50 Million last week, are hoping to make Barkley their first acquisition of the Summer.

The attacking midfielder would add depth to Tottenham’s attacking options as they prepare for Champions League Football following last season’s second place finish.
