The pair in at the Juventus Stadium on Sunday with Juventus atoning for their 4-2 defeat earlier in the season with a hard-fought 1-0 victory, Kwadwo Asamoah’s 42nd-minute proving to be difference between the sides.

In what is undoubtedly the tie of the round, Vincenzo Montella’s side will bid to sneak ahead in the head to head and grab a crucial first leg advantage on Thursday, to do that they will have to do what no club has managed since Bayern Munich in April 2013,win in Turin.

Juventus have been irresistible at home this season and have won 12 consecutive home games in all competitions with a perfect 14/14 record in the league, statistics that Montella will use to spur his men on.

“Obviously I’d have preferred to play another team in Europe but as I said it’s motivating for us,” he said.

“We’ll have to dig deep and perhaps even raise our game. We have to go about it with character and confidence because if we want to have higher ambitions than fourth or fifth, we must show it on the pitch.”

Fiorentina have already shown this season that they have the ability to match Juventus, coming from 2-0 down to win 4-2 when the two side met in October.

Giuseppe Rossi scored a hat-trick that day but the former Manchester United striker will be absent on Thursday after injuring knee ligaments in early January

Fiorentina also put in a strong performance on the road in the last round of the Europa league, beating Danish side Esbjerg 3-1, before sealing their place in the next round with a 1-0 draw at home.

Juventus meanwhile found themselves in the Europa league after finishing third in their Champions’ league group behind Real Madrid and Galatasaray. Antonio Conte’s men quickly put their exit behind them though as they beat Turkish side Trabzonspor 4-0 on aggregate, with on loan striker Pablo Daniel Osvaldo scoring in both ties.

Osvaldo was on the bench for the clash with Fiorentina on Sunday and with football matters moving into the business end of things, Conte could once again persist with Carlos Tevez and Fernando Llorente.

Defender Giorgio Chiellini who created the winner for Asamoah on Sunday in his first game following a month on the side-lines should start.

The Italian defender is already dreaming of an all Italian final against rivals Napoli, telling the Juventus’ official website “We have belief, and we’ll go for it right until the very end,”

“I think everyone’s dream is for us to face Napoli in the final, because two Italian sides reaching that stage would be a point of pride for everyone.”
