AC Milan v Atalanta : Allegri looking to keep Serie A pressure on Juventus with victory at San Siro

With three Serie A games remaining, AC Milan will be determined to keep the pressure on league leaders Juventus this week when they search for three points at home to mid-table Atalanta in Serie A tonight.

Going into Wednesday night’s fixture, Milan are three points behind Juventus, so it is not in their hands, but they must ensure they do their bit in case the league leaders drop points.

Therefore, this week’s home game against Atalanta is a must win. Nothing else will do for Massimiliano Allegri’s men. If they do drop points and Juventus defeat Lecce, the title race is all but over.

Looking at their recent form, it does seem as though Milan are going to take things down to the wire. They have won three of their last four games, including an impressive 4-1 win at Siena last time out.

This was the first time that Milan had scored more than twice in the league since early March too, so they will be hopeful that they can finish the season on a strong note. That’s all they can ask for at this stage.

As for Atalanta, they would love to all but end their hosts title hopes and it seems fair to say that they can go into this one relatively relaxed. Not only are they the underdogs, but they are comfortably in mid-table with not too much to play for.

There is an outside chance they could finish as high as seventh though, so this will be the aim. Three wins out of the remaining three games and they can consider this a very successful campaign.

They come into this game on the back of two successive wins too, so they have some momentum behind them. There is usually a result either way when Atalanta play too as they haven’t drawn in the league for eight matches.

When these two teams met earlier in the season, it was Milan that secured a 2-0 victory back in January and they will be expected to do the double on Wednesday evening.

The pressure is well and truly on the hosts though, so Atalanta will be hoping to take a fascinating advantage of this. The game gets underway at 7.45pm on Wednesday evening.
