Since their promotion back to the Premiership, Hull have been busy finding targets to strengthen the club’s defensive outlook.
And their quest to sure up their backline has taken a big step forward following the signature of former Rangers goalkeeper Allan McGregor.
The Scottish keeper had spent the last 12 months playing for Turkish side Besiktas before completing his free transfer to the KC Stadium.
By enlisting McGregor’s services, Hull have finally secured a goalkeeper who have been without a top quality keeper since David Stockdale returned to Fulham at the end of last season.
After completing his transfer, McGregor was in high spirits and seemed eager to test his skills in the Premier League. In an interview with The Sun, McGregor declared that ““I’m really excited to be here and I’m happy that everything is done now.”
““I can’t wait to get started here. This is a great chance for me to play in the Premier League and I’m looking forward to the season ahead,” he added.
McGregor is certainly a strong signing for Hull with the Scottish international having already proven his capabilities during his time at Rangers in the SPL.
The Scot spent 14 years at Rangers making 278 appearances for the club and winning 3 SPL titles before the club’s insolvency.
His good form didn’t end in Scotland though as the keeper played 27 games for Besiktas in the Turkish Super Lig where the club finished 3rd overall.
Of course, McGregor has also been a part of the Scottish international set-up where he has earned 29 caps over the past 6 years.
But McGregor does have some notoriety in his past when the goalkeeper was dropped by Rangers following a night out and disobeyed team orders resulting in some animosity between club and player.
Even so, Hull’s capture of McGregor has been just one part of the clubs strategy to reinforce their defences to cope with the rigorous demands of the Premier League.
Alongside capturing a strong goalkeeper, the club have buoyed by the arrival of centre back Curtis Davies from Championship side Birmingham City whilst experienced players such as former Fulham defender Liam Rosenior renewed their contracts at the club.
With The Tigers pre-season preparations seemingly going smoothly so far, it could see Hull having all the pieces in place to ensure that they can avoid relegation for a second time once the season gets underway in a few weeks time.
