England travel to Malta on Friday night to play their seventh World Cup Qualifying game of their campagin and it is a game they should win very easily.
Malta are struggling at the bottom of the table, while England are sitting with a two point lead at the top. The other key thing to note is that Malta is not a difficult place for England to travel to and play, it is not like visiting an Eastern European country, which leads me to believe they are going to have no problems in this one.
The key game for England during this period is Monday’s clash with Slovakia, who are the team currently two points behind them in the standings. With one eye on that game, England may rest a player or two in Malta, and I certainly don’t think they will be going all out to hammer them.
However, having said that, Malta are bottom of the table without a point for a reason and that is simply because they are not very good at all. Defensively they are very poor and their -13 goal difference tells you that. They don’t have any real attacking threat capable of giving the English back line any problems and everything for me is pointing to a comfortable England win.
The odds on England aren’t great, but they should have no problem putting three or four past this Malta team meaning that handicap betting comes into the equation. I wouldn’t risk too many goals, because I do think England will play with one eye on Monday, but even in first gear and with a couple of players rested I am sure England can score at least three goals against this Malta team.
In a week that could all but cement England’s place in the World Cup, I am backing them to record a comfortable victory in Malta and they can beat the -3 handicap at 7/5.
