The former Manchester United star has failed to reach the heights of last season and so far has managed just one goal in three games. There has been speculation that the forward would prefer to return to his roving right wing role but according to Real manager Carlo Ancelotti that role has been earmarked for Bale.

“Bale will play in a position based from the right,” Ancelotti said. “[He and Ronaldo] are two great players. I am convinced that working together will help the team to be better. [Bale] is very excited to be here. He is happy to be at the team he wanted to join. He is a humble player who likes to be with his teammates and be part of the group.”

The player has not played a club game this season although he did play midweek for Wales in their loss to Serbia. A lack of match-fitness could mean that Bale does not start the game with Ancelotti admitting that he is not yet 100%

“He will play, but I do not know if he will start the match, or if he plays in the second half,” he said. “Everyone knows he did not have a normal pre-season. He trained alone [during August], and he had 10 days training with his national team. He is not at 100 per cent, but he is not bad.”

Real, who along with their hosts on Saturday have won their opening three games, will head into the game without the services of Marcelo, Fabio Coentrao and Alvaro Arbeloa after all three returned from International duty injured. Another defender, Raphael Varane is also out.

That means that youngster’s Nacho Fernandez and Dani Carvajal will come into the side with the pair set to play on the left and right hand side of defence respectively.

Isco, Ronaldo and Luka Modric should all be fit to play while Asier Illarramendi is finally set to make his debut after overcoming injury.

Newly promoted Villareal have made an impressive start to life back in the top flight and their home form over the last 12 months has been key to their progress. Only three teams have left the Estadio el Madrigal with maximum points during that period and Real Valladolid have already lost there this season.

Bojan Jokic (hamstring) and Francisco Farinos (Achilles) who have yet to feature this season will once again be missing.
