In the space of seven days Carlo Ancelotti’s men have gone from first in the table to third following back to back defeats to Barcelona and Seville.

The defeats have left the club three points behind new leaders Atletico Madrid and with a worse head to head record against both their rivals.

Despite the gloom that currently resides around the club, there is still an over-riding feeling that the club can lift their second title in three years with midfielder Isco backing his side to succeed.

“It is a huge blow because it has completely changed the situation we were in two games ago,” Isco told the club’s official website.

“We are Real Madrid and are obliged to pick ourselves up. There are eight games left and we are confident in our ability to turn this situation around. We have already done that more than once.

“We came back from six points behind so why wouldn’t we be able to do that now?”

The former Malaga man could come into the side as Real look to freshen up the team while Sergio Ramos will go straight back into the side after missing the clash with Seville through suspension, with Rafael Varane likely to make way.

While Real will fancy their chances of ending their brief winless run they face a difficult test against a Rayo side that has won four of their last games.

The most recent win was secured deep in injury time midweek as Joaquin Larrivey’s penalty secured a 1-0 win over Osasuna.

The run has moved the club away from the relegation zone and up to 12th in the table however they will be wary of a wounded Real especially as they have conceded four or more goals in eight league fixtures this season.
