Napoli have revealed that both Gonzalo Higuain and Jose Reina have passed medicals and will be presented to the club’s fans next Monday.
The ambitious Serie A club have paid £34.5 million to Real Madrid for Argentine striker Higuain with Liverpool stopper Reina moving to Naples on a season-long loan deal.
The 25 year old Higuain has scored 107 goals in his six years at the Bernebeu and is set to sign at 5 year deal at the Stadio San Paolo.
Arsenal were believed to the front-runners to sign Higuain but there interest waned as their belief that they can snatch Luis Suarez from Liverpool grew.
However in a double blow for the Gunners, Real Madrid could now switch their sights to the Uruguayan striker.
Meanwhile Spanish International, Reina is set to be reunited with his former boss Rafa Benitez and goalkeeping coach Xavi Valero after agreeing to move to Italy for 12 months.
The former Villareal keeper had been linked with a return to Barcelona during the summer but a move was scuppered when it was revealed that Victor Valdes would remain in Catalonia for a further campaign.
The uncertainty over the future of Reina forced Liverpool to act with Reds boss Brendan Rodgers snapping up Sunderland goalkeeper Simon Mignolet.
Reina’s agent Manuel Garcia Quilon revealed to Gazzetta.it the 30 year olds joy at reuniting with the man who brought him to Anfield saying “He’s happy to reunite with Benitez because he’s known him for over five years from their time in Spain and England, and they worked very well together.”
News of the double swoop broke when the pair were pictured arriving at the Villa Stuart Sport Clinic in Rome with Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis later taking to twitter to confirm the successful medicals.
The social media savvy 64 year old tweeted the successful medicals, which translated read as “Higuain and Reina have passed their medicals and will soon join the rest of the group.
“On Monday there will be a big party at the San Paolo. You will be able to get to know the new players and the new shirts.”
Napoli have been busy this summer using the money to garnered from the sale of Edinson Cavani to PSG for £55 million to bring in PSV winger Dries Mertens and Real Madrid pair Jose Callejon and defender Raul Albiol although it is the capture of Higuain and Reina which will excite their fans the most.
