Apart from Luis Suarez, Liverpool’s attacking line failed to score many goals last season which severely hampered their quest to try and secure European qualification.
To try and solve their dilemma, The Reds have been searching Europe to find potential goalscorers and Rubin Kazan winger Salomon Rondon is the latest player to make the list.
The 23 year old Venezuelan has proven to be an influential player on the game and his good form has attracted the interest from several top clubs such as Liverpool.
Brendan Rogers is keen to sign the winger and could be available for around £8.5m if the club were to launch an official bid for the player.
But Liverpool aren’t set to have it all their own way in their pursuit for Rondon who has also sparked the interest of Champions League Finalists Borussia Dortmund.
Dortmund are looking to sign Rondon as cover for Robert Lewandowski who is being linked with a move to fellow German giants Bayern Munich.
Whilst Liverpool may have the financial edge over Dortmund should a transfer battle emerge between the two, the German side have the added bonus of playing in the Champions League which could tempt the Venezuelan to move to the Westfalenstadion.
In Russia, Rondon has enjoyed some strong form for Rubin having netted 7 goals in 20 games last season in the Russian Premier League.
The Venezuelan’s form in La Liga was arguable more impressive though where he netted 14 times in 30 games during his first season with Malaga which he then followed up with another 11 goals in the following season.
Rondon has also become a key figure in what is a rejuvenated Venezuelan national side having earned 31 caps and scoring 11 goals for his country.
It was this sort of form that helped him lead his side to finishing in 4th place in the 2011 Copa America and out-placing several of the regions’ best teams such as Argentina and Brazil.
Rndon is just one of a number of targets that Brendan Rogers is evaluating should Luis Suarez decide to leave the club before the end of the transfer window.
Liverpool are also thought to be interested in Udinese’s Colombian striker Luis Muriel although the club has not enquired about his services.
With there still being several weeks left in the transfer window, Liverpool have plenty of time to react and buy a player like Rondon but the club will need to be prepared to make the right move quickly should Suarez leave the club in the next few weeks.
