Brendan Roger’s side will bid to go top of the table on Saturday when they welcome Cardiff City to Anfield.

The Reds are currently second in the table, two points off top spot but they can top of the league with a win on Saturday with current leaders Arsenal not in action until Monday, when they face Chelsea.

The meeting will be the first between two in the Premier League and both will head into the clash on the back of wins last time out.

The Reds of Merseyside produced not only their best performance of the season but also since manager Brendan Rodgers took over 18 months ago in their 5-0 demolition of Spurs at White Hart Lane.

Meanwhile the Reds of Cardiff ran out 1-0 winners over West Bromwich Albion at the Cardiff City Stadium.

Both results had serious implications for the opposition with Spurs and WBA both dispensing with their managers after the defeats.

Rodgers will once again be without Steven Gerrard, Jose Enrique and Daniel Sturridge for the clash and is likely to stick with the same starting 11 that beat Spurs. Jordan Henderson produced a man of the match performance in London leading to universal praise.

The 23 year old has previously struggled to justify his inflated transfer fee but this season is looking every inch the £16 million pound man. The spotlight and indeed responsibility will once again fall on the England man on Saturday.

Henderson will be partnered in a three man midfield alongside Lucas and Joe Allen with Raheem Sterling and Philippe Coutinho hoping to once providing the support to Luis Suarez, although with a big game against Manchester City looming Luis Alberto and Victor Moses will hope to get a chance to shine.

Cardiff meanwhile are likely to drop Peter Odemwingie with Bo-Kyung Kim likely to start in his place as Malkay MacKay looks to play with a lone striker in the shape of Frazier Campbell.

Craig Bellamy could feature against his old club after missing the last three games with a knee injury while Andrew Taylor should start after making his comeback last time out.

The two club’s last met in the final of the Capital One Cup in the 2012 when won 3-2 on penalties after it finished 2-2 in normal time.

The last league meeting between the two sides came during the 1959/1960 season in the old second division when Cardiff won 4-0 at Anfield, a similar result this time round would send shockwaves throughout the Premier League.
