Brendan Rodgers side slipped 8 points behind the Gunners when Kolo Toure’s cross-goal pass was intercepted by Victor Anichebe who slotted home the equaliser.

Toure will get an early chance to atone for this error with the former Arsenal star in line for his sixth successive start.

The Ivory Coast star has formed a solid partnership alongside Martin Skrtel and with defenders Daniel Agger (calf) and Mamadou Sakho (hamstring) not to mention long term absentees Glen Johnson and Jose Enrique he will once again fill the breach.

Agger and Sakho are closing in on a return to first team action however the clash Arsenal will come too soon for them.

“Daniel and Mamadou are not far off, but I’m not expecting to have either of them back for the weekend,” Rodgers told the Liverpool Echo.

“They are not back in full training yet. Daniel will be back at some stage next week so he’s progressing really well.

“But Sakho is still a bit away from coming back training.”

Arsenal meanwhile have worries of their own with key men Theo Walcott and Aaron Ramsey out and Matthieu Flamini suspended although Jack Wilshere is poised to return.

New signing Kim Kallstrom is also a few weeks away from full fitness and won’t feature.

Despite the absence of some of his big stars not to mention the a feverish home support, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has urged his side to control the game and not allow the home side time on the ball.
“We need to dominate the game in order to keep (Luis) Suarez and (Daniel) Sturridge quiet. We must control possession.” The French man side in the build up to the game.

“I am convinced mentally we are prepared, we have shown great response when we’ve had difficulties. Physically we are prepared as well, we need to rotate so we need as many players available as we can.

“The closer you get to the end, the more vital every game becomes. But we are enjoying it and we have fought very hard.”

Arsenal have a good recent record against Liverpool winning three of the last four games. The Gunners won 2-0 when the two sides met at the Emirates in November, a repeat of the score line when they played Anfield last season.

That win in September 2012 saw Santi Carzola and Lukas Podolski score their first goals for the Londoners. The pair will meet again at the Emirates next weekend in the 5th round of the FA Cup.
