Liverpool are believed to readying a move for Barcelona midfielder Alex Song.
The Reds were linked with a move for the Cameroon International, cousin of former Liverpool Red back Rigobert Song, earlier this summer but were believed to have cooled their interest.
The deal for Mario Balotelli, the club’s 9th capture of the summer, was thought to have concluded their summer business however according to El Mundo Deportivo that is not the case with a season-long loan move for Song being lined up.
The midfielder has struggled for game time since moving to the Nou Camp in 2012. The former Arsenal midfielder made 19 appearances last season and is not part of the club’s plans for the coming season.
The Gunners are also reportedly keen on the star as too are French side Marseille, however it is believed that Liverpool are leading the race at the moment with the club’s offer of a loan deal with a view to a permanent transfer next summer.
While Barcelona would like a straight £10 million cash deal they could be tempted by Liverpool’s offer.
Liverpool’s need for a defensive midfielder was very apparent last week in their 3-1 loss to Manchester City and with Lucas linked with a move to Napoli, Brendan Rodgers wants more options in the middle.
