Liverpool are in talks with former Barcelona keeper Victor Valdes as they look to make one last addition to their squad.
Having spent over £100 million this summer on the likes of Mario Balotelli, Emre Can, Alberto Moreno, Lazar Markovic, Dejan Lovren, Rickie Lambert and Adam Lallana the club were believed to have finished their transfer activity.
However according to reports in the Daily Mail Reds boss Brendan Rodgers is out to make one more signing with Valdes in his sights.
The three-time champion’s league winner has plenty of pedigree following his stint with Barcelona, something that would be most welcome in what is a young Liverpool team.
The fact that the 32 year old is currently recovering from a cruciate ligament injury sustained in March has not put off Rodgers, with the injury preventing a move to Monaco from going through.
The club have been looking for a high quality stopper to provide back up to Simon Mignolet and were believed to be keen on a deal for Argentine stopper Sergio Romero as well as Reading’s Alex McCarthy.
Neither of those deals have transpired however with Romero’s wage demands putting off the Reds and QPR stealing in ahead of the club for McCarthy leaves Valdes as the club’s new target.
The Spanish star would not be fit until December but with Brad Jones on the books that would not worry manager Brendan Rodgers too much.
