Liverpool’s plans for the summer transfer window are set to suffer yet another major setback after French newspapers reported that Lille defender, Simon Kjaer is set to say no to a move to Merseyside in a bid to earn a lucrative deal with Turkish giants, Fenerbahce.
The Reds have been following the Lille OSC defender for a few months now and were confident of acquiring his services. However, after seeing the club struggle last season, the Denmark international is much more keen on a move to Fenerbahce where he will have the chance to contest for domestic titles and also a chance to play in Europe by next season.
This is the second time that a player has rebuffed Liverpool this season with Brazil international, Roberto Firmino also reportedly rejecting a chance to play in Anfield in favour of a move to Manchester United.
And with the club still unable to sign a major player so far this summer, the task gets even more complicated for Brendan Rodgers who has a major rebuilding job to do.
