Liverpool to move for Southampton defender

The Daily Mirror is today reporting that Liverpool are set to make an official bid for Southampton defender Nathaniel Clyne.

With Glen Johnson leaving the club last week on a free transfer, Brendan Rogers is keen on a move for the England international to boost his defensive options, as the Reds look to give their squad a much needed summer clean out.

With the summer season expected to be busy at Anfield, the Reds are rumoured to table an offer around the £12m mark, although it is expected that the Saints will be looking more towards the £15m figure, with the player highly rated by boss Ronald Koeman.

The Liverpool manager is also taking a look at 19yr old Joe Gomez, who spent most of last season at Charlton and could arrive for a cut price deal worth around £3.5m
