Former Liverpool midfielder, Danny Murphy says that it would be a big mistake if Belgium international, Christian Benteke were to leave Aston Villa for any other club this summer. The Belgian powerhouse has been hotly linked with a move away from Villa Park in recent weeks with reports claiming that Manchester City, Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal and Tottenham all are vying for his signature.
However, Murphy feels that Benteke still has a lot to prove and therefore should stay at the club for at least one more season before signing for Liverpool where he feels the player will do well.
Speaking to Talksport he said: “He wouldn’t get into Manchester City, Chelsea or even Arsenal’s side at the moment, so it would be more like a Liverpool or a Tottenham [who would sign him].
“The problem is they’re never going to pay £32.5m to get him because last season he didn’t play well enough for a long enough and that was partly down to injuries.
“I would suggest to him stay another year at Aston Villa, play 35 games, get 20 goals, and then you might get a move to one of the big boys.”
