Mario Balotelli given compassionate leave

The Italy international’s foster father way recently passed away and Brendan Rodgers has given the striker clearance to not join up with the rest of the squad for training

The young Italian striker was set to return with the rest of the squad for the Reds’ first training session of the preseason but tragedy struck when the former AC Milan man was informed of his foster father’s demise and had to leave the club to be with his family.

And Rodgers chose to give the player a compassionate leave so that he could spend time with his family on this tragic and testing hour.

Balotelli tweeted over the weekend: “Thanks everyone for the support. I really wanna thanks everybody. My family thanks all of you too.”

Born in Palermo to Ghanaian parents, Balotelli was eventually raised by Italian parents after his first family deserted him at a very young age.
