Martin Skrtel signs new contract with Liverpool

The Slovenian international has reportedly signed a new contract extension with the Reds that will keep him at Merseyside for the next four years

Seven and a half years after making his debut as a promising talent, Skrtel has confirmed that he will be staying at the club for a really long time after the Slovenian centre back signed a long term contract with the club which now makes him one of the most senior players in the team following the departure of Steven Gerrard.

And although he is unlikely to be given the captain’s armband, one can say that Skrtel will have a lot of responsibilities on his shoulder and will be looking to guide Jordan Henderson (the man who could be the first team captain), along the way.

Since joining from Zenit Saint Petersburg back in 2008, the Slovenian has been a really consistent player for the Reds and has also chipped in 17 goals which is quite a feat for someone who was never really known for his scoring exploits.
