Aston Villa manager, Tim Sherwood is confident that Christian Benteke will stay at the club despite strongly been linked with a move away from the Villa Park
The Belgian international has been hotly tipped with a move away from the club for the past two years and it appears that with the likes of Manchester United and Liverpool really keen on signing him, the striker would eventually leave the club this summer.
Louis van Gaal is keen on signing a new striker following the departure of Robin van Persie to Fenerbahce while Brendan Rodgers sees the striker as a perfect replacement for Mario Balotelli who no longer has a future at Anfield.
However, Sherwood is confident that the club’s star man will not be leaving this summer.
“I think he stays,” Sherwood told Sky Sports News HQ when asked about Benteke’s future
“I think Liverpool – I looked the other day – have six or seven strikers at the club. Now I’m not sure how many they actually need. We know Christian is a very good player and we want to keep hold of him.
“If someone matches that buy-out clause there is nothing we can do about it but until that happens he is an Aston Villa player and we are all very pleased about that.”
