The Liverpool manager is excited at the prospect of managing the former Charlton Athletic youngster and says that he can compliment his teammates next season
The youngster started the friendly game in Australia against Melbourne victory and was not taken aback by the moment and partnered well with Martin Skrtel.
The youngster operated down the left flank and showed real versatility throughout the game, thus prompting Rodgers to keep the youngster at the club for next season and giving him a fair chance to play in the first team despite his young age.
“A big plus tonight was young Joe Gomez,” Rodgers said after the youngster displayed his talents in Australia. “I’ve seen him at centre-half and at right-back but I wanted to see him at left-back and I thought he was outstanding. Joe will stay with the club this season. I’ve already seen enough in this period. With young players I bring them in and I judge them over the pre-season period and seeing him close at hand and his personality he will be staying, he will get games. Alberto has only just started training again after an injury but he should be back in the squad for Monday night.”
