Official: Liverpool secure Christian Benteke

The Belgian international has moved to Anfield for a fee of 32.5 million pounds from Aston Villa and will link up with fellow countryman Divock Origi with whom he will compete for a place in the starting XI

Brendan Rodgers has been in the market for a new striker for weeks and had earmarked Benteke to be the striker who would change the club’s fortunes. And now, the former Swansea manager has finally got his man and would be hoping to see him be prolific than the likes of Rickie Lambert and Mario Balotelli, two players who literally misfired last season.

Following his signing, the Belgium international told the club’s official website: “I came here to win trophies. I came here to reach some great goals with the team.

“I think this is the right club for me because I had a good chat with the manager and I wanted to be part of his project.”
