Abou Diaby rejected Liverpool before Ligue 1 move

The France international has signed a short term deal with Olympique Marseille and reveals that he rejected a chance to sign for Liverpool

The midfielder was released by the Gunners at the end of last season after he managed just 32 appearances in five years during his time at the Emirates. However, the Frenchman was given an option by Brendan Rodgers to stay in the Premier League but chose not to take that option out of respect for his former club where he still has a cult status.

Wenger has described Diaby as ‘the biggest regret of his career’, recently telling reporters; “I think Diaby is the biggest regret of my career. He is a guy who has been severely injured and it is not acceptable, we have paid the price for that but I hope things turn around for him and they go well.

“First and foremost, he really didn’t achieve his potential unfortunately. I think he had great potential and he could only show that at certain periods of time.

“I’m a really big fan of Abou Diaby and I really hope from the bottom of my heart that he can end his career without any more injury concerns.”
