Former Liverpool playmaker Jamie Redknapp reckoned that Adnan Januzaj should stay at Manchester United and ease up some of the pressure on captain Wayne Rooney.
During the summer transfer window, the 20-year-old has been touted as a move away from United but the former England international said that he should stay at Old Trafford now that boss Louis Van Gaal has offered him a position in the attacking midfield.
Van Gaal, on Friday, handed Januzaj a starting position behind the captain against Aston Villa where he scored the first half goal in a 1-0 win for the Red Devils.
“Januzaj has put himself right in the equation to take up the number 10 role and ease some of the pressure on Wayne Rooney,” Redknapp said. “The really good news from Friday’s game for United is that Januzaj has come back into the equation. He looked like a man who might have been sent out on loan, with Sunderland reportedly interested in him.”
