The Nigerian striker is expected to fly to England this week for a medical before signing for Brendan Rodgers’ side.
The forward, 17, plays for Imperial Soccer Academy in his homeland but has been strongly linked with a switch to the Reds in recent weeks as the club’s manager looks to build the club’s future.
The deal’s confirmation has been delivered by a spokesman for the Nigeria FA, who says Awoniyi will miss next month’s All African Games, where he was set to star for the Under-23 team.
‘Awoniyi will leave this week for England to sign his contract with Liverpool,’ TimiEbikagboro said.
‘That is why he is not here training with us for the All Africa Games.’
Awoniyi is a speedy striker who African Football claim has been watched by Monaco and Porto in the past and has been tipped for a bright future ahead.
