Lazar Markovic could yet have a future at Liverpool if he impresses during his season-long loan at Fenerbahce.
The Serbian winger only signed for the Red 12 months ago in a £20million deal. Rather than to offload the 21-year-old, Liverpool would like him to return to their first-team set-up next summer.
Markovic is set to follow Liverpool misfit Mario Balotelli out of Anfield. As Balotelli completed his season-long loan to AC Milan on Thursday, Markovic was on the brink of joining Fenerbahce on a similar deal.
Given the amount of talent brought in at Liverpool, it was only a matter of time before some players were slowly casted out.Unluckily for Markovic, it became clear after the pre-season that he would struggle to get regular games and the club have decided it would be best for him to get games in another league.
Liverpool are adamant Markovic, who also attracted interest from Aston Villa and West Ham, has a long-term future. They believe a season in Turkey will improve his football education and he will return an improved player.
It is expected that he will join Fenerbahce before the deadline and Liverpool will then look to move Fabio Borini and Jose Enrique – the other players who were made to train away from the squad with Balotelli.
