Daniel Sturridge is edging closer to a return from his lengthy injury lay-off after pictures showed him training at Liverpool’s Melwood base on Thursday.
The 25-year-old has not featured for Liverpool since April and missed the entire pre-season as well as the first three matches of this Premier League campaign.
However, the striker is stepping up his efforts to work his way back to match fitness and a potential return on September 12 against Manchester United.
The Englishmen was able to make just 18 appearances in all competitions last season due to an injury crisis.
Sturridge joined Liverpool in a £12million deal from Chelsea in January 2013 and has scored 40 times in 67 appearances for the club.
Brendan Rodgers’ side have picked up seven points from their opening three games in the Premier League this season after wins against Stoke and Bournemouth followed by a draw at Arsenal.
The Reds face West Ham on Saturday at Anfield in their last game before the international break, after which they visit Old Trafford to take on rivals Manchester United.
