Liverpool in for Sakho & Williams as Llori move stalls

Liverpool’ latest attempt to add to their defensive options appears to have fallen short following reports that a move for Sporting Lisbon centre-back Tiago Llori has stalled.

Brendan Rodgers had been very keen to add the London born defender to his ranks but so far he has been unable to strike a deal with the Portuguese side with a dispute between Llori’s agent and the club’s representatives putting the deal in limbo.

Despite being born in England the 20 years of age moved to Portugal at a young age. The defender has progressed through the ranks from the club’s famed youth academy to the first team and is contracted until 2015.

The Portugal U20 International was reportedly available for £3 million which given his potential would have represented good value for Liverpool. The club are desperate to add depth to their defensive ranks following the retirement of Jaime Carragher and doubts over the future of Martin Skrtel and Sebastien Coates.

The club have already secured the services of Kolo Toure but Rodgers is keen to make additional signings and has reportedly switched his sights to Paris Saint Germain defender Mamadou Sakho.

According to Le Sport 10 Liverpool are keen on the powerful centre back and with the 23 year old contemplating his future with the Ligue 1 side a move could be in the pipeline.

Sakho has failed to hold down a regular place with the Parisians with Thiago Silva and Alex the main defensive choices.

PSG would be reluctant to let the France international leave and have offered him a two year contract extension which will keep him at the club until 2016, in addition to a pay rise however with a World Cup looming Sakho is aware of the need to be playing regularly to force his way into Didier Deschamps’ plans.

Liverpool are keeping tabs on the situation as well as renewing their interest in Swansea defender Ashley Williams. The 28 year old Swansea captain has looked set to join Arsenal but with no move in the offing as of yet Liverpool could re-enter the race.
