Liverpool close on midfield duo as Spearing exit looms

Liverpool are reportedly closing in a £37 million double deal.

Brendan Rodgers has been very busy during the transfer window and has already completed four deals with Kolo Toure, Luis Alberto, Iago Aspas and Simon Mignolet all agreeing moves to Anfield.

The former Swansea manager is keen to do his business fast and could be set to make his fifth and sixth signings with Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Victor Wanyama.

Highly rated Armenian attacking midfielder Mkhitaryan has emerged as Liverpool’s main summer target with Russian sources now claiming that a £25 million deal is close.

The club are hoping to conclude a deal in the coming days with the player scheduled to travel to Merseyside for talks and a medical.

Borussia Dortmund and Tottenham Hotspurs are also keen on the midfielder but Liverpool are hoping that there determined pursuit of the player will see them win out.

The Shakhtar Donetsk star scored 25 goals last season and Rodgers is hoping that the 24 year old moves to Anfield to form a new look midfield.

Wanyama is the other piece of the midfield jigsaw with the Celtic midfielder ready to spur the advances of Southampton and Cardiff to move to Liverpool.

The Kenyan International is a defensive midfielder and his arrival would provide competition for Lucas. A fee of £12 million has been mooted for the for the former Beerschot star, who only moved to Parkhead for £900,000 in 2011.

With all the focus on attack and goals a move for Wanyama would give Rodgers a tough tackling enforcer to protect his back four.

The arrival of the pair could see a few departures with Wigan reportedly interested in a move for Jay Spearing and Swansea still keen on a deal for Jonjo Shelvey.

23 year old Jordan Henderson could also be offloaded despite his upturn in form in the second half of last season.
