Liverpool could make a move for former star Xabi Alonso amid rumours that the club have missed out signing top target Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
Armenian International Mkhitaryan was believed to be the club top target this summer but with the Shakhtar Donetsk star now set to complete a move to German side Borussia Dortmund, Reds boss Brendan Rodgers is set to turn his attention to Alonso.
The Spanish International is reportedly available for $15 million dollars after failing to agree a new contract with the La Liga side.
A deal for Alonso would mean a change in the club’s “no over 30s” transfer policy although Rodgers is hopeful he can convince the club owners’ FSG to make an exception in this case. The club have already signed 32 year old Kolo Toure but the move was sanctioned as the former Arsenal player was a free agent.
A move for Alonso would be welcomed by the club fan’s not to mention his former midfield partner, club Captain, Steven Gerrard.
Speaking to the Mail last November the England star described Alonso as the “best midfielder” he played with and added that he missed player alongside him.
Liverpool are also ready to enter the races for Dutch stars Toby Alderweireld and Wilfried Bony.
Ajax defender has long been linked with a move to Anfield but so far the club have failed to make an official approach. But with moves for top target Tiago Ilori and Schalke defender Kyriakos Papadopolous failing to materialise the club look to return to Ajax with a £8.5 million offer for the player.
The 24 year old Belgian defender has won 3 titles with the Dutch side but is set to move on this summer as he has one year left on his current contract and hasn’t agreed a new deal.
The 25 times capped Belgian International is highly rated in European circles and his addition would be a valuable boost to Rodgers has he looks to strengthen his backline following the retirement of Jaime Carragher.
Rodgers is also believed to be keen on Swansea target Wilfried Bony as doubts continue over the future of Luis Suarez.
With Arsenal and Chelsea the latest clubs to express an interest in Suarez Liverpool are ready to move for 24 year old Bony.
The Ivory Coast striker, compared to Didier Drogba, scored 31 goals in 30 league appearances for Vitesse Arnhem.
Bony would cost the club in the region of £15 million pounds should the club firm up their interest.
