Liverpool close to deals for Cissokho and Jorginho

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is ready to move for Valencia left-back Aly Cissokho.

According to the Sunday People, Liverpool hopes to take advantage of the Spanish club’s financial woes by offering £4 million for the 25 year old.

Rodgers is keen to strengthen the left hand side of his defence after failing to be convinced by Luis Enrique last season.

The former Newcastle star struggled to force his way into the line-up early in the season with Glenn Johnson and Stewart Downing both featuring in his place although his performances improved in the second half of the season.

The club had been linked with Lille’s rising star Lucas Digne but the 19 year old has opted to join Monaco forcing Liverpool to re-consider their options.

With the focus on recruiting high profile options for central defence and the forward line, a move for Cissokho, capped once by France would be a cheap alternative.

The former Lyon defender made 30 starts last season, 18 in La Liga and 7 in the Champions league scoring 2 goals and creating 2 more but with Valencia struggling finically the club look set to cash in on the player.

The player was linked with a move to Everton last season but a move failed to materialise although if the latest reports are true Cissokho could still end up in Merseyside.

Reports in Italy meanwhile are stating that Liverpool have made an offer for Verona’s Brazilian star Jorginho.

The news, which first broke through Alfredo Padulla, claims that Liverpool have offered €9 million for the 21 year old, signed for only €35,000, but with AC Milan in the hunt it remains to be seen if a deal can be completed.

Despite being born in Brazil Jorginho, who moved to Italy at the age of 15, looks set to represent Italy at International level after applying successfully for Italian citizenship, a move that saw the youngster receive a call up to the Italian U21 side in October 2012.

Jorginho can play as a deep lying forward or on the wing provided the inspiration for Verona as they secured a return to Serie A last season and has been linked up as a potential back up for top target Henrikh Mkhitaryan amid reports in Germany that the Armenian is set for Borussia Dortmund.
