Manchester City have announced that they have no intention of selling Sergio Aguero to Real Madrid as speculation increased over the Bank Holiday weekend.
The player had been linked with a move away from the club following City’s unimpressive season and the departure of manager Roberto Mancini, however the club insist that the player is going no where.
Manchester City chief executive Ferran Soriano publically dismissed any possibility of Aguero leaving the club.
The blue’s leading goal scorer had been linked with Real Madrid, as they are long-term admirers of their rivals Atletico Madrid’s former player.
Soriano said that despite continuous enquiries, the club will not sell the player.
Soriano said, “This has gone on and on and on. We have had discussions with Sergio and his agent about several things and he has never expressed the willingness to go,”
“We have never had an offer and even if we had an offer we would say no.”
Meanwhile, Soriano took the time to admit that the club are in talks with bringing new players in
He said “We are at the closing phase with several of them but the closing phase can take one week or three months.”
He also revealed that the club is now in talks with extending the contracts of Carlos Tevez and Gareth Barry as they enter the final year of their contracts.
He continued, “They are obviously two very good players and the discussions are going to take place,” he said.
Manchester City are believed to be in the market for a new striker as they are rumoured to be preparing a deal for Napoli striker Edison Cavani.
This deal is speculated to include their current striker Edin D’zeko to move the other way.
They are also being linked with Malaga youngster Isco, with a deal for Cavani and Isco to be worth around £50million.
Manchester City are also awaiting the arrival of new boss Manuel Pellegrini from Malaga, of whom they have set a target of five trophies in five season, including the Champions League.
City have been linked with a numerous amount of players this summer already, with the likes of Robert Lewandowski rumoured to be on their radar.
Aguero arrived at the Etihad stadium for a staggering £35million from Atletico Madrid and caught the hearts of Manchester City fans when he scored a last minute goal for them against Queens Park Rangers to win them the Premier League last season.
City have been strongly linked with another Atletico Madrid striker this season as they are believed to be desperate to sign Columbian international Falcao.
The player is expected to be worth around £54million, but he announced this week that he would not choose his future and would leave it up to the club if they are to sell him or not.
It was believed that Carlos Tevez is on his way to mega-rich French club Monaco, as they plan to bring in a number of big name players, however Soriano rejected this rumours.
