Man City v Man Utd Odds : Back Wayne Rooney to score in Manchester derby

The latest Man City v Man Utd odds as all eyes descend on Manchester as Manuel Pellegrini’s City side are favourites in the latest betting from Paddy Power.

Both these sides have yet to find their stride in the Premier League so far, so victory in the Manchester derby today for either side could prove pivotal so early in the season.

David Moyes’s United side have yet to sparkle in the Premiership, losing to bitter rivals Liverpool in their last away trip, but its definitely a building process for the former Everton manager.

Latest Odds : Man City 13/10, draw 9/4, Man Utd 23/10

The Scot has shown great patience and a deft touch in keeping Wayne Rooney happy, and the want away striker now looks to be enjoying life at Old Trafford – for the time being.

A goal against Crystal Palace and a brace midweek against Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League is just the tonic that Moyes and United fans will have been looking for, and Rooney looks primed in decent form coming in to this crucial derby, good news with United’s other available striker Daniel Sturridge carrying a knee injury.

That defeat to Liverpool was followed by a lacklustre 2-0 home win against recently promoted Crystal Palace, in a game in which the Champions looked decidedly sluggish in breaking down the Neil Holloway’s side.

Manchester City of course, will prove  much tougher nut to crack, so a confident Rooney is vital if the Red Devils are to get anything from this game.

The Citizens of course are in a transitional period of their own, following the dismissal of Roberto Mancini last season, however Pellegrini will be delighted that inspirational skipper Vincent Kompany is back from injury after missing the last three Premiership games.

City have already brushed aside Newcastle and Hull already at the Etihad this season, with new signing Alvaro Negredo and Yaya Toure looking in find form.

Edin Dzeko, who is always amongst the goals could start up front with David Silva looking to return from injury, in what potentially looks a very attacking lineup.

A decent 3-0 away win over Viktoria Plzen in the Champions League looks to have given the side a much needed confidence boost, as the 13/10 could attract plenty of punters who sense the shift in power to the Blue half of Manchester.

Alex Ferguson may have gone but one of his signings – Wayne Rooney – could hold all the aces in this one after finally overcoming his problems.

The price of 23/10 for the away win just goes to show what little faith the industry as a whole is giving to David Moyes side, and even at that price we won’t be diving in.

Instead, we like the look of Rooney to score first at 8/1 with Paddy Power.

This could just be the game to return the faith the Old Trafford faithful has shown him and what better time to do it than in the first Manchester Derby of the season.

Don’t miss this one – the game gets underway at 16:00 GMT Sunday.
