The legendary German world cup winner feels that the midfielder would have done well had he chosen to sign for a Major League Soccer club
Beckenbauer believes that Schweinsteiger made the wrong decision by leaving Bayern Munich for Manchester Untied and is not sure if the midfielder would be able to give his best to the Red Devils at the age of 30. The German legend feels that a move to North America would have suited him more but has wished him well nonetheless.
Both clubs announced that the Germany international will continue his career in the Premier League, with the stylish midfielder expected to complete his agreed move to Old Trafford within the next 24 hours.
“I find it very brave to make a move like this at his age,” the Germany icon told Passauer Neuen Presse.
“People know Schweinsteiger at Bayern and know what he can do. That’s not the case in England. He will have to prove himself all over again.
“Basti is 30 years old at the moment. I wish him all the best and hope he can represent German football well in England. Not a lot of players have succeeded in doing so.
“A move to MLS would have made more sense for me.
“He has to make sure he becomes fully match fit again and recharge his battery. And that he does not watch too many tennis matches…”
