Chris Smalling welcomes Sergio Ramos competition

The Manchester United defender says that he is not worried about the possibility of the club signing the Spanish defender

For weeks, Manchester United have been hotly linked with a move for the Real Madrid man amidst reports that the world cup winner is itching for a move to Old Trafford due to irreconcilable differences with the club’s authorities. The Red Devils are willing to offer the player a lucrative contract and although his arrival will mean extra competition, Chris Smalling is confident that it will be a good thing for him and his club and added that he is not fazed by the rumours at all.

“I think it’s a case of where, at Manchester United, there’s always competition,” he told reporters. “Even when I signed [the fresh terms] there were five centre-backs who I had to work hard to get past.

“So I always knew I was going to be compared against the best because United can always challenge for the best and I’m up for that challenge.”
