The Spanish midfield maestro says that he always knew that the Red Devils would be spending big this summer in a bid to make a really competitive squad
The midfielder, who signed from Chelsea in January last year, has seen the team make a flurry of moves in the summer transfer window with the likes of Bastian Schweinsteiger, Morgan Schneiderlin, Memphis Depay and Matteo Darmian already arriving at the club and Louis van Gaal still looking to add more to the squad.
And Mata says that he always knew that the Red Devils would be very active in the transfer window.
“They told me, ‘You are very important, you are one of the first,'” Mata told reporters. “I knew the club was going to have these kind of signings.”
This squad overhaul has many United fans hoping that Louis van Gaal’s men can mount a genuine challenge for the Premier League title next season but Mata insists attracting top talent is only the beginning.
“We know there is still a lot of work to do,” he added.
“It’s not just about bringing good players in. It’s about playing well and winning trophies.”
