The Manchester United manager has indicated that the Argentine shot stopper has been brought to the club in order to replace the Spaniard if he leaves the club
Last night, Manchester United completed the signing of former Sampdoria shot stopper, Sergio Romero. The Argentine has signed a three year deal with the Red Devils and has an option for a further fourth years which clearly means that the club is waiting for the departure of David de Gea who has long been linked with a switch to Real Madrid.
And LVG has admitted that Romero arrives as a replacement for the former Atletico Madrid man.
“I know him [Romero] very well and I think in our situation, if De Gea is going or not going, it is always a threat and we have to take care, make sure that we are prepared,” Van Gaal told MUTV.
“That is why I think it is very good that Sergio Romero is now a Manchester United player.”
