Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher: Manchester United have no chance of winning Premier League

The 37-year-old former Reds captain, who made 508 appearances for Liverpool, believes that Red Devils will not reach anywhere near the Premier League title this season.

Manchester United boos LVG made a host of blockbuster signings this summer to strengthen his squad, with the likes of Matteo Darmian, Memphis Depay, Sergio Romero, Morgan Schneiderlin and Bastian Schweinsteiger landing the Old Trafford deal.

However, despite LVG’s influx of summer signings, Reds icon Jamie Carragher insists that Red Devils will not secure top spot on the Premier League ladder.

When asked about the possibilities of United bagging the league title: “No,” he said emphatically

“Look, for me, it’s Chelsea again, ahead of Manchester City,” Reds defender told the English media.

“Arsenal have closed the gap, but they are still third best.

“And then there is one place in the Champions League up for grabs: Manchester United should get it, Liverpool and Tottenham will compete for it.

“It depends on how each squad copes with the demands of European football.

“United have spent big, they’ve added numbers and quality, but can the squad cope with the challenges of the Premier League and the Champions League?

“You have to expect a title challenge from United this season considering the funds spent over the last two years but there is still a gap between them and Chelsea.”
