Brazilian defender Rafael da Silva claims that Red Devils boss Louis Van Gaal did not like him.
Rafael ended his seven year stay at Old Trafford last week by completing move from Old Trafford to French side Lyon for £2.5 million fee. The 25-year-old defender was a crucial component of Red Devils squad under the tutelage of Sir Alex Ferguson, however he spent most of the time warming up the bench under Moyes’ and Van Gaal’s management. On parting note, Rafael said that Van Gaal did not like Brazilian players.
He said: “I know that he has had problems in the past with Brazilians, but there’s no way I can say that he does not like Brazil. Yes, I know he was not happy with me, but I do not know if it was because I was Brazilian. Moreover, I was not the only one he did not like. He also told other players that they might leave.”
Rafael continued: “When Van Gaal arrived, it quickly became clear that I would play little. A footballer always wants to play and a footballer who plays, is happy. My relationship with Van Gaal was pretty normal. Of course he has his own way of communicating and has his temperament, but I have too.”
