Speculation that Marco Verratti will become a Manchester United player this Summer picked up when it was revealed that he has become a client of agent Mino Raiola – the man who brought Paul Pogba, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Henrikh Mkhitaryan to the club.
Verratti, who has been linked with Barcelona regularly, has reportedly dropped his former agent Donato Di Campli after he called the midfielder a “prisoner of the Emir at PSG”.
Taking to Instagram, Verratti wrote: “I hereby announce that, as of this moment, the only person who is authorised to represent me in all matters related to sport is Mr Mino Raiola”.
“I thank Mr Di Campli for the excellent job done so far and I take the chance to confirm my deep and unchanged faith in his abilities.”
This change of agents has added further fuel to the fire in relation to the potential switch of the Italian midfielder to the premier League with Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United.
“Super-Agent” Raiola has been an integral part of United’s transfer dealings over the past two seasons, and having already been linked with a move to United prior to being a client of Raiola’s, speculation of 24-year-old Verratti’s move will only intensify now.
United have been linked with Eric Dier from Tottenham and Nemanja Matic from Chelsea this Summer, but both of those moves looked to have fallen through with Spurs refusing to let Dier go and Matic looking Juventus-bound.
It is believed Barcelona are still in pole-position to acquire the signature of 21-cap Italian international Verratti, but the Red Devils have also thrown themselves into contention, with one of their top scouts – Jose Maygorga – reportedly holding talks with the player’s representatives last week according to Tuttomercatoweb.
