Manchester United are plotting a move for Portuguese midfielder Renato Sanches, who Bayern Munich have made a fee available for £40 million.
The 19-year-old European Championship winner with his Country in 2016 did not have the debut season he wanted with the Bundesliga Champions, seeing his playing time restricted and his impact less than was expected, starting only nine games after signing for the club for £30 million last May.
With manager Carlo Ancelotti’s side reportedly open to offers for the player after club chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge saying he “would not get lot of game time next season so open to discuss potential sale”, Manchester United are believed to be looking at the player they searched for last Summer once again.
Rummenigge also confirmed that AC Milan – who have been extremely active in the transfer window this Summer – are interested in the player, but may not be able to match the asking price.
Manchester United are in the market for a midfielder, and with Tottenham’s Eric Dier and Chelsea’s Nemanaja Matic looking unlikely, and any chance of landing PSG’s Marco Verratti still a long way off, perhaps Sanches could represent a good investment in the long term at such a young age if he is to reach his potential.
After playing a part in helping Portugal to the Euro 2016 trophy in France, perhaps fellow countryman and United manager Jose Mourinho will opt to meet Bayern’s asking price and bring the clearly talented tricky midfielder to Old Trafford and the Premier League.
United have already signed striker Romelu Lukaku and defender Victor Lindelof this Summer, and it looks like they will have plenty more business to complete before the transfer window closes.
