Manchester United are back in the Champions League this week and in their first game they take on Basel at home. This is a perfect opportunity for them to win their first game back in the big time and I am sure Jose Mourinho will be expecting his team to challenge on both domestic and European fronts.
Basel are probably a little disappointed with how they have started their domestic season, they are only third in the league with 11 points from their opening seven games. They were beaten on Saturday by Lausanne at home 2-1 in a shock result and they face such a tough away trip as they try to bounce back.
Despite slipping up on Saturday against Stoke, Manchester United are still top of the Premier League with ten points from four games. They have been very impressive up to now and look primed for a huge season both domestically and in the Champions League.
To succeed in the Champions League you need to score goals and Romelu Lukaku has been a huge difference maker for United so far this season. He has given them a big presence in attack and he is going to be key for them in the Champions League. Early goals will give him confidence and this is the ideal place for him to start and score a couple of goals to get him going in Europe.
This is the ideal start starting point for Manchester United and I don’t see anything other than them winning this game comfortably by two or three goals. That will get their campaign off to the best possible start and give them a great platform to build on.
I am expecting to see Manchester United win this game by at least two goals and keep a clean sheet in what should be a comfortable night at Old Trafford.
