Paul Scholes Testimoninal as Man Utd face New York Cosmos from Old Trafford

A Manchester United team take on New York Cosmos this weekend as players pay their respects to Red Devil legend Paul Scholes who has retired and taken up a coaching role within the club.

Of course, there are plenty of memories for fans as the quiet man from Manchester takes his place as one of the Premiership’s all time greats. Who can forget Scholes winner in the 2007-08 Champions League semi final 2nd leg at Old Trafford versus Barcelona? His 1992 volley against Bradford? Or his ‘private’ moment on the pitch with Gary Neville?

All these memories will be debated and rued over as the Premiership waves goodbye to a man who has not only become a Man Utd legend, but takes his place amongst the Premiership’s Elite players over the last twenty years.

For those interested in having a small wager on the game, take up Ladbrokes’ offer of a free £50 bet to all SqueakyBumTime visitors, which can be spent on this game or any other football match this weekend!

Its sure to be an emotional night for the red headed dynamo, who writes the final page in his glittering Manchester United career in front of a packed audience at Old Trafford.

There’s sure to be an array of stars on display, both past and present showing their respects and it should be a carnival atmosphere with Utd old boys Nicky Butt, Gary Neville United all lining up for the New York Cosmos, together with some well known faces in Sol Campbell, Brad Friedel, Robbie Keane, Brian McBride and Patrick Vieira.

Fabio Cannavaro is also rumoured to be taking part and we could well see Eric Cantona take to the Old Trafford turf as the mercurial Frenchman is Director Of Soccer at the Cosmos and the lure of once again stepping out on to the hallowed ground may be too much to bear.

There is little doubt that this game will not be taken too seriously and predictably Utd are heavy favourites.

It should be the perfect tonic before the serious stuff, with Manchester United facing Manchester City in the Community Shield this Sunday, while they kick off their Premiership campaign away at West Brom on August 14th.
