Its been a formidable few years for the Three Lions, following on from their 3-1 series win on their last visit down under with a 3-0 whitewash of Michael Clarke’s side during the summer.

It was a victory which epitomised discipline, consistency, talent and professionalism, which contrasted vastly with the Aussies off field problems, and there’s little to suggest we won’t see more of the same, kicking off with an England victory in Brisbane.

William Hill have announced that they will offer 4/1 on England winning the first test and the series, which looks like one of the bets of the year so far.

Much is expected of this Australian side by the public and the press, and home field advantage could play against the hosts – in fact Australia look decidedly shaky in the batting line up, failing to score 300 six times in the last Series, with England only succumbing twice, which makes William Hill’s price a real steal.

Expectantly, all eyes will be on Jonathan Trott, Alistair Cook and new boy Michael Carberry to lead from the front, and all will be eager to get the series of to a steady start for England, after both endured a tricky Ashes series during the summer.

Cook is predictably a stand out 3/1 to be top England batsman for the series, while those wishing for a little more value could do much worse than back Ian Bell, who has seen plenty of support as his price comes into 7/2.

Outspoken Kevin Pietersen may be a little too short for some at 10/3 in what looks alike a very solid England top 6 order, which averages over 70 going into the Series.

Elsewhere Stuart Broad looks a decent price of 3/1 to be England Top Wicket Taker during the Series, after impressing in England’s warm up game against a New South Wales Invitational XI, and although he’s sure to be in for a hot reception at the Gabba, he has plenty of quality to cause a flaky looking Aussie batting line up all manner of problems.

It should be an exciting tussle down under for England, but one in which they should triumph. At the top of the piece we mention that Ian Botham has done the Glenn McGrath, predicting a 5-0 win – those thinking the same can get a price of 66/1.

We’re more than happy to take up William Hill’s offer of 4/1 for England to win the first test and win the series. It offers more than a hint of value.
