Cardiff meanwhile will have fond memories of their last league visit to Anfield.  54 years ago, almost to the date, the Welsh side then managed by William Jones travelled to Merseyside and claimed a 4-0 win. Liverpool at that were managed by the soon to be legendary Bill Shankly and were a second division side.

A lot of has happened in the intervening years with Liverpool climbing to the top of the football tree while Cardiff have had to be patient as they waited for their chance to eat from the top table.

But they are here now and with 16 games gone they sit 15th in the table, four points clear of the relegation zone. They have already claimed one famous scalp this season beating Manchester City.

With Liverpool scoring for fun at the moment, they are the Premier League second top scorers and their star man Luis Suarez has scored more than the entire Cardiff team, Saturday’s game promised to be an exciting affair.
