There’s always a growing buzz when two emerging players manage to get to the latter stages of a Grand Slam tournament as both look to make their mark on the biggest stage of them all.

This year’s Australian Open will be no exception as Simona Halep and Dominika Cibulkova sit just one game away from reaching new heights in their careers.

11th seed Simona Halep will certainly be eager to impress as she reached the last eight of a Grand Slam for the first time by defeating eighth seed Jelena Jankovic 6-4 2-6 6-0 in the fourth round.

It’s a remarkable run for Halep who has struggled in Melbourne on previous occasions having been eliminated in the first round for the past two years.

It certainly shows that the Romanian is in the form of her life as she has lost just once since September 2013 beating many of the world’s biggest names such as Sam Stosur and Petra Kvitova.

Her opponent, Dominika Cibulkova, has also upset some of the big guns in recent weeks having been responsible for knocking Maria Sharapova out of this year’s Australian Open thanks to a 3-6 6-4 6-1 victory in the fourth round.

By doing just this, Cibulkova has now excelled past her best ever performance at Melbourne Park having only gone as far as the fourth round in her previous attempts.

However, the Slovakian has come into some good form in 2014 with just a loss to Serena Williams in Brisbane being the only blemish on what has been an impressive start to the New Year.

Cibulkova also goes into the clash with a slight lead against Halep in the head to head record winning 2 out of their 3 meetings including a 7-5 7-6 victory in the first round of last year’s Indian Wells Masters event.

Both players are fairly evenly matched going into the clash and it’s going to be whoever can deal with the pressure the best that ends up making their final four dream come true.
