None of that will mean anything however if they fail to pick up three points this weekend and further points away to Poland next week, something defender Grant Hanley is well aware of.

“We have to start picking up points,” he told a news conference. “It’s our first home game and we must be positive.

“If we play as we did in Germany we won’t be too far away. The ultimate goal is to qualify.

“Competition for places is high and I feel that every time I come here I need to be on top form and prove myself in training.

“It forces everyone to be at their best but it spurs everyone on and there’s a great team spirit.”

Scotland v Georgia Live – Much will depend on Steven Fletcher tonight

While Hanley will be tasked with keeping the Georgian’s at bay, newcomers Ryan Gauld and Stevie May will hope to get a chance to show their attacking instincts.

Young winger Gauld has impressed since moving to Sporting Lisbon in Portugal while May has scored 3 goals in 10 games for Sheffield Wednesday.

While those two will hope to make an impression, Charlie Mulgrew will have to watch from the sidelines. The Celtic defender is suspended following his red card against the Germans.

Georgia for their part are also winless after one game. Temuri Ketsbaia’s side lost out at the death to Ireland last time out with Aiden McGeady’s late goal condemning his side to defeat.

The last time Georgia travelled to Scotland they went down 2-0 with Kris Boyd and Craig Beattie giving the hosts a win. A repeat looks very much on the cards. The Georgians have won just two games since September 2012.
