Supreme Novices Hurdle Cheltenham Tuesday
Nicky Henderson has failed to send out a winner of the Supreme Novices Hurdle in 20 years and 22 runners, and although he has the favourite in the shape of Darlan this season who has the bulk of Cheltenham tips this year, we reckon that his second string Tetlami could represent his best chance of breaking that long standing duck at long odds with Ladbrokes.
As an each way bet it’s hard to knock Tetlami out of the frame and at 14/1 should give you a solid run for your money.
Arguably, forgetting reputations for a minute, Tetlami brings a stronger line of form with him to the table rather than his so called more illustrious stablemate Darlan. However, one is a 7/2 shot and the other a juicy looking 14/1 chance.
Granted, the Henderson first string looked the most likely winner of the Betfair Hurdle before taking an almighty tumble, but he still has question marks regarding his finishing kick that looked non-existent when narrowly beating the 121-rated High Storm at Cheltenham earlier in the season.
It’s for this reason why Tetlami rates as a solid each-way alternative at the current prices.
The six-year-old has been very professional in his three runs to date and is still unbeaten – the pick being a three length win over Vulcanite, who reposes here on worse terms.
You know what you are going to get from Tetlami, who is likely to travel just off the pace and find plenty for pressure when the race enters the business end.
Whether he has the class to land a race of the calibre is still open for debate, but it’s hard to knock him out of the first five, which would leave you in profit if you take advantage of Sky Bet’s fantastic each-way offer.
