Jewson Novices 13:30 Thurs
The Jewson Novices Chase looks like a race where each-way punters have ample opportunities to nick a few quid. Peddlers Cross heads the market at a ridiculously odds on short price with Paddy Power and the four horses behind him in the market have fantastic each-way claims especially with the negatives vibes surrounding the chances of the Donald McCain favourite.
The Irish won the first running of this event last season when Noble Prince put in a spring-heeled effort from the front under AP McCoy and many are tipping Sir Des Champs to go down the same route this season.
Willie Mullins has had a quiet week thus far with only Quevega landing the money for the powerful Irish stable, however, the word around the course over the past few days is that bar Quevega, this horse may be his best chance of a winner.
So far over fences he has done little, therefore confirming the top-class impression he gave when landing the Martin Pipe Conditional Handicap last season, where he came from almost a different county to win the race under Emmet Mullins.
Usually there can be some ground reservations surrounding the Irish runners coming over to Britain as they are more likely to have encountered softer ground in their prep-races at home, but Sir Des Champs won the Grade Two Boylesports.com Bet On Your Mobile Novice Chase on good ground in January and will relish the drying conditions at Prestbury Park.
Ruby Walsh, like Mullins, has struggled to find many winners this week, only one to be precise, but Cristal Bonus looks set to run a big race in the Jewson and will be popular with each way punters for the Paul Nicholls stable.
Another you can’t rule out is Solix for the in-form Nicky Henderson stable, which banged in three winners on Wednesday. He certainly has scope for improvement, not Henderson, but the horse.
