Barcelona have actually already secured two trophies this campaign with a Spanish Super Cup victory over Real Madrid and a Gamper Cup victory over Napoli and they will be the favourites to come out on top this evening.

The Spanish club have recruited Cesc Fabregas and Alexis Sanchez this summer to add to an already formidable squad. They dominated European football last season and they will want to do so again this year.

While Barcelona have strengthened, Porto are arguably less of a threat than they would have been last year. Manager Andre Villas-Boas has departed to Chelsea, while goal machine from last year Falcao has also moved on.

They have started their domestic campaign in Portugal well with two wins from two games, but there are plenty of people suggesting that they cannot better their performance from last year, especially with the personnel they have lost.

Therefore, Barcelona will be a very tough challenge for them. They will of course give it everything they have got and will relish the underdog tag against such a high quality side, but the Spanish Champions are expected to have too much for them.

One weakness in Pep Guardiola’s team is the defence though. Barcelona are without Gerard Pique and Carlos Puyol for this fixture, something with Porto could look to exploit.

Overall, it should be a very entertaining game of football between two teams looking to approach the game in a positive manner. There is certainly no shortage of attacking talent on show.

The action gets underway in Monaco at 7.45pm this evening.
