Tottenham set for summer exodus?

The summer months are always important for football clubs as they look to prepare themselves for the new season and this year is particularly vital for Tottenham Hotspur.

The White Hart Lane outfit need to ensure that their first season in the Champions League is seen just the start of their emergence into Europe’s elite, rather than a one-off campaign.

Harry Redknapp’s men enjoyed a successful first season in the Champions League over the last few months, making it to the quarter-final stages before crashing out to Spanish giants Real Madrid.

There were some excellent nights for them in Europe though with a famous away victory at AC Milan and a 3-1 hammering of Inter Milan on home turf back in November.

It would be disastrous if this good work was undone by the sale of key players like Luka Modric and Gareth Bale who have both been linked with moves away from the club.

Fair enough, Champions League football will not be the focus next season, but they have the Europe League to try and win as well as attempting to win a place in the Premier League’s top four once again.

Luckily for Spurs fans, Redknapp seems to be thinking along the same lines and doesn’t want to sell anyone. On his best players, he said that the club had “no intention of selling any of them.”

This will of course be easier said than done. Tottenham have some excellent players and if the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea of Manchester City flash the cash, who knows what could happen.

However, the correct stance is being taken with Redknapp saying that none of his top players are for sale.

Focus needs to be on strengthening the squad, not weakening it to ensure that even happier times are ahead for Tottenham Hotspur.
